For agendas that require out-of-the-box thinking, few destinations deliver results like Clayoquot Wilderness Resorts –The Bedwell River Outpost. In British Columbia’s remote untamed wilderness, executive groups live in a modern-day version of a nineteenth-century Great Camp. The outpost’s 20 accommodations—prospector-style tents of white canvas—sit beside the Bedwell River in the pristine biosphere of a UNESCO-designated reserve. All offer Adirondack-style beds with down duvets, antique dressers and tea tables, remote-controlled wood-burning stoves, and heirloom china and silver accessories.

A cedar boardwalk connects the accommodations to communal tents for meetings, spa treatments, refreshments and relaxation. In the games tent, groups socialize over a game of pool, poker, or old-fashioned snooker. A new ranch-style cookhouse, with its two-sided fieldstone fireplace and open kitchen, doubles as a reception site for up to 100 guests.

Guests explore the area’s pristine beauty via kayak, horseback rides, fishing excursions, whale and bear watching trips, and mountain biking. The Outpost’s commitment to preserving the environment affords groups a rare opportunity: to participate in stewardship programs such as bear mapping, raptor rehabilitation, whale acoustics, winter feeding-ground enhancements, and forest management.
